Memories from youth... Lake Erie Metro Park

I remember being a little girl going to the "wave" pool at Lake Erie metro park.
Didn't matter how cold it was, if I was lucky enough to afford to go there I went!  Normally it was a large family thing at the park. And we had to share all our toys... being an only child it was hard to share with my mean older cousin. so I never had the fun at that place that I wanted to. I may have to relive that and go to the wave pool this year. I was always younger and really forgot about parks as I grew up.

Well even though the storms were coming or going couldn't tell.. by the time I got home the sun was shining so we all went up to Lake Erie Metro Park. Loving this place now even older mainly for the trails and wildlife.  We parked not anywhere near where we normally do. and took the paved path.  We walked to the left to get to the bridge and a little bay type of water section at the park.

We kept seeing all the ground /water creatures poking out their heads and swimming in the little bay area. See that brown little guy muskrat thats right.

Here we have a jimsonweed. this is a do not eat plant. yet when it blooms it has wonderful large flowers on it.  Long story short i remember when i was younger hearing about this plant on the news they did a state wide removal of this plant because it was taking the lives of younger kids who wanted to try it. They said on the news you can see things. I was young dumb and had a life mission to always find this plant when i was young and dumb it was to try it. So glad i outgrew that stage of life.  because now i can look at the plant and be like YEAH ID'd it!  and not try it After learning even more about the plant i'll never suggest anyone to try it!

We stuck to the main trail, paved and muddy in spots.  We forgot our park pass and it was getting dark. Wonder what time the park closes. (and why do they close)
It started to get dark and we seen the next storm cloud better head back!!!
We did walk quite a bit we have no head lamps or flashlights just our phones.
we are getting closer to our car, we see a ranger.. start the car start the car maybe they will see we are trying and not give us a ticket for no park pass, and it seems late i'm sure the park closes soon if not already.  Sucks when we mis-judge time.

Yeah!!! the car starting from the trail thing worked. the cop drove away. waited for us as he said two more weeks guys and the park will open til 10pm we said sorry and no ticket. he was really cool.

Well thats all i remember from this trip it was a while for this hike but here are some photos for your eye candy today!!

  1. Oh, one of my favorite places to visit ... even more spectacular once it ever greens up. I've never seen a muskrat Pril ... I must look more closely. These are great pictures and there was still a little ice left when you were there.
